Description
Selected through an international design competition, Delighthouse was one of eight installations built on Woodbine Beach, Toronto as part of the 2023 Winter Stations series. Responding to the theme of Radiance, the design sought to reinterpret the traditional lighthouse typology into a technicolored, fairground- inspired landmark. Unlike the conventional ‘warning’ role, this lighthouse is a vibrant and playful beacon of fun and optimism drawing visitors to the beach during the winter months.
Originally installed on the shores of Lake Ontario, Delighthouse was embraced by the local community and has been relocated first to the grounds of a local arts centre in Summer 2023 before returning to The Beaches district in winter 2024 when it was sited on the local high street. Delighthouse was shortlisted for the 2024 Architects’ Journal Small Projects awards, featuring on the front cover of the magazine.
